A Prayer for Lifted Spirits When Your World Is Altering

With one swift click on of a mouse, my utility was submitted. And my coronary heart and shoulders sank. I didn’t desire a new job. I’d grown fairly darn comfy with my present life. Opening myself as much as a place beneath another person’s rule and reign left me tremendous weak to an excessive amount of change. An unsure future that felt a lot much less in my management. It appeared to imply giving up my life for one thing that undoubtedly didn’t seem as fascinating. However after a lot processing and prayer, I believed this was the place the Lord was main. And he had at all times been trustworthy in my life, and all through the lives of the heroes of the religion I’d been admiring and studying from for many years, so I trusted his steering and took the leap. The one challenge was this: it was actually exhausting, and it damage.
How about you? Have you ever skilled, or are you dealing with proper now, some unsure life modifications? Are you coping with emotions of worry, discontentment, or discomfort via it, like I’m?
In Psalm 16:11, after the psalmist declares that God makes recognized the trail of life, simply as he directed me down my particular path, he declares that the Lord fills us with pleasure. Pleasure. I might use a few of that. You? And the place does he say the enjoyment is discovered? In God‘s presence. Effectively, you and I each know that God is at all times current, so why don’t we at all times really feel pleasure? I imagine it has quite a bit to do with us not at all times acknowledging his presence and never noticing, or failing to deal with, the place he’s displaying up round us. For me, and perhaps you too, we are likely to gravitate our ideas towards our issues as an alternative of fixing our eyes on him. Wanting, looking for, and looking exhausting for his blessings.
The verse finishes with a magnification of what that pleasure seems to be like as we grow to be extra conscious of God, calling it “everlasting pleasures at your proper hand.” Pleasures. The very issues we predict we’re going to miss or forfeit as we observe new paths and stroll into life change. I hope it encourages you to know that wherever God is current—in all places—pleasure, blessings, and pleasures may also be. We simply have to hold our gaze his method.
Go searching the place you might be proper now. Are you able to see them? His blessings? Hold wanting. They’re there proper now, my pal. And they’re going to observe you thru each single season and alter you proceed to come across.
Let’s pray:
Lord of Hope, You provide such pleasure in your presence. Everlasting pleasures—too many to rely. Oh, how I wish to search, discover, and deal with them. However too typically, I get so consumed with what’s altering—with the comforts I’ve held too tightly too—that I lose sight of you, and permit my spirits to sulk and my outlook to dim. You understand how exhausting change will be for me. and see my coronary heart. And it grieves you after I grow to be disheartened. However you might be extra current than ever, providing continuous consolation and compassion. Assist me to relaxation in your love and discover pleasure in your very presence as I acknowledge you. And acknowledge all you’ve finished, all you’re doing, and all you’re pouring out in nice love with ceaseless generosity. Assist me discover pleasure as I hold my eyes on you. Lord, thanks on your uplifting presence that by no means leaves. In your ever-present title, Amen.
